History

Resound, as it was originally known, was founded in 1943 by Dr Rodney Perkins of Stanford University. They were then bought by GN Nord Store, a company whose origins began in telecommunications. GN Resound has grown to have over 25 offices, selling to over 80 countries and employs over 4000 people.

Range of Products

GN Resound have a full catalogue of hearing aids available. They are renowned for producing smart technology devices, in particular their Receiver in the Ear (RITE) model. Also in their arsenal, is the Completely In Canal (CIC), the Invisible In Canal (IIC), and the 675 battery-operated super power Behind the Ear (BTE).

Innovations

GN Resound were the first company to launch smartphone compatible hearing aids. Utilising the 2.4GHz waveform, they were able to control their hearing aids with a Bluetooth enabled smartphone. This also enabled direct streaming of media/phone calls into the hearing aids.

In 2009, GN Resound launched an innovative new design to their custom In the Ear (ITE) hearing aids; called the Remote-Microphone. The Remote Microphone is a wired mic, that is placed in the helix of the pinna, to better enhance directionality and improve performance in background noise. By utilising the ‘pinna effect’, Remote Mic hearing aids are able to outperform other custom products.
