We were delighted to read a recent Which? report which highlighted a fact we have known for years – local independent hearing centres really do offer their customers a superior service.

The consumer watchdog conducted a survey amongst its hearing aid-wearing members and the results conclusively proved that the independents outperform the competition on every front.

Customers were asked about their experiences with private hearing aid retailers – as opposed to NHS providers – and local independent retailers scored a unanimous 5 out of 5 in every category: products/pricing; staff/service; arrangements/facilities.

The report stated: “The difference between a good and a bad hearing aid solution is not usually the aid itself, since most hearing aids are made by a handful of manufacturers. It’s more to do with the professional fit and service given by the provider.

“It can take time to fit and adjust a hearing aid correctly so that it’s working to maximise your hearing. Without a patient and attentive fitting service, you could get frustrated and give up on your aid, consigning it to the back of a drawer forever.”

We couldn’t agree more with these sentiments and though we were pleased to read the report’s conclusions we were not surprised. Our hope now is that publication of the report will mean its findings are seen by a wider audience who will be encouraged to give their local independents a try and discover for themselves the benefits of experiencing a caring, professional service.
